Best for Culture - Expert review of Metropolitan Museum of Art
With everything from mummies to Monet, the Met is home to one of the world’s most spectacular collection of masterpieces. The massive neoclassical granite building at the edge of Central Park in fact houses more than two million works of art and welcomes five million visitors a year. No matter what your interests, you’ll find plenty of blockbuster pieces: from classical Chinese calligraphy scrolls and Islamic art to 17th-century Spanish masters, plus wonderful visiting exhibitions. There is simply too much to take it all in, so give yourself plenty of time and don’t even try to do it all. But don’t miss the impressive entirely reconstructed Egyptian Temple of Dendur at the northern end of the building.
Tickets are US$20 for adults and free for children under 12 - this also includes same-day admission to The Cloisters museum and gardens. There is no extra charge for entrance to special exhibitions.
