Expert review of River cruises
Arguably the city’s greatest asset is its river. The Danube is the dividing line between the two distinct sides of the city; it is spanned by some beautiful bridges (some of them illuminated by night) and is overlooked by landmarks including the Parliament building and the Buda Castle Palace – indeed, the riverscape is itself a UNESCO World Heritage site. As such, a river cruise is an atmospheric way to get a good gawp at some prime sights. Various agencies offer sightseeing cruises – from standard cruises with recorded commentaries to longer trips that feature dinner and folklore programmes. There are also standard ferry services daily in summer and at weekends in spring and autumn.
One-hour cruises start at around 3,000 forints, while fancier offerings might set you back as much as 10,000 forints.
