Expert review of Museum of Fine Arts
The Museum of Fine Arts is very fine indeed. Housed in a columned building reminiscent of an ancient Greek temple, the collection of foreign art is the country’s richest. You’ll find paintings by Brits like Hogarth and Gainsborough, Impressionist works by Monet, Cubist pieces by Picasso, and a gallery of Old Masters that showcases Raphael, Rembrandt, Velázquez and more. If you fancy peering further back still, you can browse decorated Egyptian sarcophagi, Iron Age ceramics and Greco-Roman statues.
Permanent exhibitions 1,200 forints (adult) and 600 forints (concessions); guided tours 8,000 forints or free (in English) on Tue–Fri at 11am and 2pm, Sat 11am.
