Why go to Begur?

You’ve got history, culture and beaches. What more could you ask for?

Begur is one of the Costa Brava’s prettiest medieval towns. It’s perched high on a hilltop and it’s a lovely little town to wander around with narrow, winding, cobbled streets. But what makes this such a great holiday place for me is the fact that you’ve also got some of the Costa Brava’s most gorgeous coves and beaches just a short drive away, so you’ve got the best of both worlds.

The wonderfully sheltered coves

Head to the coast from Begur and within about fifteen minutes you’ll arrive at tucked away little coves. There’s everything here from secluded, romantic, sandy coves and tiny inlets that draw the yachting crowd to Blue Flag family friendly classics and windswept swathes of sand perfect for surfing from.

The food

The towns and beaches around Begur are some of the smartest on the Costa Brava, so it’s perhaps no surprise that there’s a big choice of exceptionally good restaurants. In fact in and around Begur you’ll find some of the best cooking in the region, often at a fraction of the prices you’d expect to pay elsewhere in Europe. The slow, unhurried pace

One of the things that really makes Begur and much of the Costa Brava feel like a real getaway is the wonderfully slow pace of life around here. If you fly into Girona or Barcelona you’re still in busy cities but as soon you get to Begur, you’ll feel the pace begin to slack; the perfect way to ditch the stress and really slow down. It’s a great base for seeing other nearby villages, going for country walks or hitting the golf course.

As well as having fabulous beaches within easy reach, Begur is also near to a whole host of equally lovely, mostly hilltop medieval villages, each with their own character and charm. You’re also in the midst of the gorgeously lush Empordá countryside with country walks and some excellent golf courses.
