Expert review of Stari Grad
Hidden away up a side street close to Pile Gate, this welcoming and romantic b&b is one of only two hotels within the medieval city walls. In a 17th-century stone building that once belonged to the of Drašković family, it has eight comfortable rooms and a roof terrace with magnificent views over the surrounding terracotta rooftops, where breakfast is served in summer.
In a side street just off Placa, the main thoroughfare in Dubrovnik’s pedestrian-only Old Town. All the city’s main cultural attractions are within a 10-minute walk.
The eight rooms (four double, four single) are all furnished with reproduction antiques and oriental rugs, have a safe, air conditioning and mini-bar, plus a spotlessly clean tiled bathroom with shower.

Like most guests, the highlight for me here is eating breakfast on Stari Grad’s rooftop terrace and enjoying the fantastic views over the Old Town. If you’re there on a chilly morning, there’s also a cosy little breakfast room downstairs next to reception.
Breakfast includes cereal, yogurt, fruit, fresh bread, and a choice of tea or coffee.
None, but if you ask at reception they can help arrange various activities. And the nearest beach is just a five-minute walk away.
Friendly and helpful multi-lingual staff.
